April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and taking piano lessons which ignited her interest in writing songs. April's very first song was called Different which she composed when she was 12 years old. The year she turned 14 was when she spent a lot of her time making song lyrics and working on her music. Soon, April began to take trips to NY and LA with her Dad in order for them both compose songs. April began including other topics in her book Take My Hand to help the people in her life who are struggling in the face of peer pressure, disability or suicide. Lockhart is a popular figure and is a lifestyle blogger with the renowned Ilia the Clean Beauty brand. The disability she has is part of her persona, however it's not the entire picture. As a result Lockhart's Instagram profile doesn't shy away from her disabilities, yet it's not focused on it as well. What message does it convey? It's this: We all have numerous identities. We're much more complex than we think we are. Lockhart has stated on video that she doesn't wish to be defined solely by her handicap. She does not want to become an advocate for disabled people who only speaks about it. There are a variety of aspects to Lockhart. My everyday life isn't directly affected by disability. I lead a normal day-to-day life and discover myself solutions for problems. This is also part of me, and I believe it's something that needs to be addressed. Lockhart who is an motivation for self-acceptance generally and is currently on a lengthy road to reach this. Even so, Lockhart admits that she has had periods when she felt uncomfortable with her appearance and wearing clothing that showed her arms. Now she wears whatever outfit she wants and posts pictures on her Facebook page with pride. What makes self-love so appealing to her is the fact that it's not a destination. This is true for everyone, regardless of their insecurity. It's important to have people around you who are aware of and appreciate the way you feel. They will be the ones to ask your: What are you fret about?
